Your despatch 26th. January miscellaneous para. 1 Public Works Department could do work but have no cable available and would have to import or purchase it from E. E. Telegraph Co. who have supply on the spot. Commodore considers that it would be more satisfactory to arrange with the E.E.Tel. Co. to lay and maintain the telegraphic connection with Stonecutters Island and desires that the Admiralty authorise him to negotiate direct with the Company in question. Para. 2 no other telegraphic connection necessary Commodore has already submitted proposals to Admiralty with regard to telephonic communication for Naval Purposes and the Military Authorities are making their own telephonic connection between the Station and headquarters. The Colonial Government does not require at present any separate telegraphic or telephonic
connection.
